Social Issue: Crime Blog Post #6

Article Related to Social Issue:
Why I chose this article?
I chose this article because it was an article which represented the social issue in my novel and it related to my book perfectly. In addition, this article talked about a different type of crime, which was a hate crime. A hate crime is a violent hate on someone’s racial, sexual or other prejudices. In this article, it talked about a transgender woman who was pushed to the train tracks by a man because she was transgender. As a result, this story represented an easy understanding of a hate crime and that’s why I chose it.
How this article relates to my book and social issue?
This article relates to the social issue in my novel because this article shows a different type of crime, which is a hate crime. In my novel there were a few scenarios where there were hate crimes. For example, Duncan was hating on Wayne because of who he is. Duncan didn’t invite Wayne to help him find the serial killer in the book and the main reason behind that was because he was hating on Wayne. Therefore, there was hate crime in my novel and in the article.
The article relates to my book because in my book, the last scene took place in a train station. Duncan found out who the killer was and the killer chased Duncan to the train station where Duncan was thrown on to the train tracks and almost killed. In relation to the article, the man pushed the woman off the tracks, like Duncan was pushed by the serial killer.
Photograph relating to Social Issue
This photograph represents a campaign poster against hate crime. As it is seen, the campaign is offering you to take action on hate crime, which is a start to end the social issue of crime. This poster is very effective because in two or three words it tells you what a hate crime is. For instance, by the words on the bottom, you can tell that a hate crime is a crime against gender, religion and disability. Therefore, it is informing many of hate crimes and getting people to join them in solving it.

Social Issue: Crime Blog Post #5

Article Relating to Social Issue:
Why I chose this article?
I chose this article because it represented a solution to the social issue found in my book, effectively. For instance, the article talks about how the CFSEU made a raid on a lot of organized crime and they arrested many on the charge of drug and human trafficking. This article represents a great example of how crime should be handled.
How this article relates to my book and Social issue?
This article relates to my book because it talks about crime in Toronto; therefore in my book the crime that takes place is in Toronto. In addition, the investigation  that was going on, to find illegal doings of these criminals was much like Duncan’s investigation on Roach (the serial killer). For instance, the investigation on these criminals most likely involved years of investigating these criminals and catching them doing illegal activities. In comparison, Duncan was trying to find the serial killer and make him pay the punishment of his doings through proof that he is a criminal.
This article relates to the social issue in my book because, as mentioned before, the article represented a solution to crime; therefore it relates to my social issue because it involves crime and a solution to it.

Photograph Relevant to the Issue:

This photograph adequately represents a solution to the social issue of crime. This is seen through the raid that is occurring in the photograph. As a result, raiding a suspected house of illegal activities is a great way to solve crime because if caught in action of participating in an illegal activity, you can be punished. Therefore, a punishment would result in a world of declined rate of crime. Moreover, this picture also represents the article through the raiding seen in the picture and the raiding that put criminals away (in the article).
Poem relating to social issue:
Why the torture, why the pain?
What on earth is there to gain?
By inflicting vicious evil thought
Even though it is all for naught
Venum spouts through clenched teeth
Demoralizing, burying underneath
Dehumanizing 'til the last bequeath.

Wrongdoing will not be tolerated
One will sooner or later be incarcerated
It will result in a prison term life-long
Or shortened life with needle injection
No time left for making correction
In one whose life had no direction
Satan instilled lies and deception.

This poem by Carmela Patterson portrays an example of why crime has no reason behind it and why people should stop it. For example, lines 1-4 depict that crime leads to no good doing and there is no reason behind it (“even though it is all for naught”). In addition, the second part of the poem talks about how criminals will not be tolerated. Furthermore, the poet talks about punishments for criminals. For example, she says that crime will lead to the death of criminals and others and imprisonment.
