Social Issue: Crime Blog Post #3
Video Relating to
Social Issue
Why I selected this?
I selected this video because it was
a very informative video on shooting deaths and other types of homicides, which
are increasing in the city of Toronto. This video explained how teenager and
children deaths are increasing, due to the fact that people are not acting up
on the situation or don’t know how to. In addition, I selected this article
because my book is about a crime that is set in Toronto; therefore some features
of the video were very relatable to my book and Duncan’s activities in the book
and that was a piece which made me select this video.
How it relates to my book
and Social Issue?
This video related to my book
because it was very relatable to Duncan’s situation in the book, where he was
ambivalent to going to the police for help on the serial killer or to keep the
information to himself. As a result, the video gave advice, in terms to Duncan’s
situation; a man in the video was talking about the fact that many citizens in
Toronto will witness a crime or know about it; however they won’t act on it. He
said that the citizens should report the situation to the police or somebody
who can help and not keep it to themselves, where either they’ll be hurt or
some else will be. In comparison, Duncan is keeping the information to himself
and he shouldn’t because of consequences listed in the video.
This video relates to my book
because the video was talking about the social issue of crime increasing in
Toronto and the actions needed for it be reduced. The video talked about
shooting deaths in Toronto, listing the fact that there are about 2 deaths a
week resulting from shootings. The video also reached out to the fact that many
don’t know how to cope with issues that cause deaths, for example, abuse, anger
management and family issues. As a result, the video represented the social
issue of crime in Toronto.
Slam Poetry Representing
Social Issue
This
slam poetry video talks about crime. The poet in this video talks about crime and how people don't act up on it. For example, he says that he has seen a boy struggle and he didn't help him and now he realizes that. his life (the boy) will be even more struggling. All in all, the poet demonstrates a good understanding of how crime should stop through his artistic, humorous slam poetry.
What does it say about crime? How does it treat the subject? What challenges can you make to the concepts in the poem or the way the poet treats the subject?
